the photoshoot
Relax!!
The photoshoot is very relaxed and informal. I prefer to shoot on location in the beautiful natural environment that is just at our doorstep. I find that children relax, have fun, are comfortable, and are at their most natural when they’re outdoors, and that’s when I’m able to capture their most wholesome, candid and heart-warming expressions.
Babies are most comfortable in their own environment, where you also have everything you need at the ready! Your home doesn’t have to look like “Vogue Living” but we will need as much natural light as possible. If you would prefer, I can provide a light-filled room for the shoot.
The length of the photoshoot will depend on how many children and their ages , but you should allow at least an hour. If the shoot involves siblings or others, I will capture as many different combinations as you would like, as well as individual portraits of course.
I won’t stop shooting until everyone’s had enough!
A special note for baby portraits, when chosing your appointment time, please make sure you choose a time that best suits your child’s temperament and routine. That is, please ensure your baby is well fed and rested and at their peak performance!
Plain, simple clothing usually works best so we can keep the focus on the children rather than on the clothing. Keep in mind that you will want to keep these images forever and that you will want to display them in your home as a treasured piece of art. The “old faithfuls” will create a timeless portrait to be enjoyed for generations. Basic denim and simple shirts or t-shirts are always a winner. White works beautifully for group portraits or siblings. Girls look angelic in a simple white frock! That said, bright summery colours can also work well to create a radiant, glowing beach shot, provided that the prints are not too distracting. Stars & stripes, overly busy prints, logos and printed words are distracting in a photograph and should be avoided if possible.
Regardless of what they wear, comfort should play a major role in your decision. The less your children have to distract them, the more relaxed they will feel and the more fun it will be for everyone!
Mums, perhaps wear a sleeve if possible and a touch more make up than usual.
Babies are most beautiful in their own skin or a simple singlet if necessary.
If there is a special wrap or something sentimental to the child, please bring it along.
Finally, your ideas are most welcome and encouraged!
If there is a particular shot that you’d really like to attempt or a location that you think would be unique,
or just a different idea you might have, feel free to speak up! I’m always happy to consider new ideas.
The only rule is, have fun!
Upon completion of the production process, you are invited to join me for a viewing of your images. At this point, you will be able to choose your favourite images and discuss the various products and possibilities to put together a package that best suits you and your family.
I recommend that this be a child-free occasion if possible as it can sometimes prove a little tedious for young ones, and it will allow you to focus without distraction.
This presentation, in a relaxed environment at a time that suits you, will allow you the opportunity to select the perfect memories to display in your own home. The opportunity to purchase these images comes at no obligation of course, however, I’m quite sure that restricting yourself will be the most difficult part of the presentation.
When you have purchased your selection of images, your own complete library of images will be available on-line for you to share with family and friends, particularly interstate or overseas. This ensures that those close to you don’t miss out on the opportunity to share your memories.
